About Kate

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in a small town in New England, specifically Vermont. And when I say small, I do mean small; the cows outnumbered the people. After graduating college I moved out to San Francisco and have lived in the Bay Area since!

Where did you go to college and what did you study?

I went to Boston University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (specializing in Judaism), and a minor in History. Yes, I know how random that is and I am happy to talk about why I chose that area of study. Perhaps that will be a topic for a future post!

So if you studied Religious Studies, you must be super religious!

I get this one all the time, which is why I am choosing to include it here. I was raised to believe that your religious beliefs are a very personal thing. Many of my family members are religious and I acknowledge and fully respect that. For me personally I am an Atheist. I will not judge anyone for their beliefs as long as you offer me the same in return. If you would like to have an intellectual conversation about religion, I am happy to do so!

What is your job?

I working in the video game industry and have for nearly ten years! As I approached graduation and thought about what I wanted to do I decided to make my hobby into my career. It’s been a fun and interesting ride. Never a dull moment, that’s for sure. Currently I work as Lead Community Manager for a fun mobile games company with a few high profile titles. I have also done Marketing and Production in the past, but my passion is definitely Community!

When and how did you and your husband meet?

Through work. Yes, we had an illicit workplace romance, except it wasn’t illicit at all, in fact many of our coworkers were waiting for us to date! We met in May of 2013 when I joined the company he had been at for a year. After making a major impression at his birthday party on my third day, I decided he seemed cool and we had to be friends. Much to his chagrin we became friends and remained that way for roughly seven months before we finally decided to take the leap and make it more. Our first official date was January 4th, 2014. We were engaged on Christmas Day that year (Christmas is my favorite holiday). We got married July 12th, 2015 in Monterey, CA.

How many pets do you have? What are they and what are their names?

Our families like to joke that we have an animal farm, and basically we do! We have three dogs and three cats, all of which we rescued. They will appear here periodically, if we can get them to sit still for pictures. They are:

We are both very passionate about animal welfare and rescuing. In addition to committing to only adopting rescue animals, we also volunteer for Pound Puppy Rescue and periodically foster kittens for Nine Lives Foundation. My dream is to one day own a huge plot of land and start my own animal rescue.

So you just had a baby! How was the pregnancy? The birth?

Kian Xander Olmstead Khan was born on November 23rd, 2016 at 3:34 am, the day before Thanksgiving. Read more about my pregnancy journey and his birth here.

What do you plan on writing about and sharing here?

I talk a bit about there in my introduction post. Basically I intend to write about whatever strikes my fancy! That being said, the primary goal for this space is to provide updates about our growing family to our friends and family who live throughout the country and the world.
